Your First Race...
To make the your riders first BMX race a little easier, here is a list of the main things to know:
- REGISTRATION:
Simply get in line at the registration window and let the volunteer know that you are a new rider and would like to sign up. You will have three membership options: #1- one day free trial membership, #2 – 30 day temporary membership and #3 - a full one-year membership.
- CLASS:
All boys start out as Novice riders. Girls have the option of signing up for the "Girls" class or the "Novice" class. Usually, the Novice class is the best option for girls.
- PRACTICE:
Once registration is done, your child can get some practice laps around the track.
- MOTOS: As practice is winding down, there will be an announcement that "motos are being posted”, these are the sheets printed off grouping riders in ability and age. Look at the "moto sheets" to find your racer. These sheets will tell you what moto (race) your rider is in and what the lane assignments are. Volunteers will be at the starting gate to help with lane assignments.

- RACES: There are two "qualifying rounds" followed by the “main event”. Some races may have 3 “qualifying rounds” (moto transfers) meaning that there are three qualifying rounds followed by the Main Event. In these ‘qualifying rounds’ only certain riders make it to the main. Listen to the announcer on who has qualified. The moto sheet will explain what positions will advance to the main event. If your rider qualifies for the main, he/she does not need to race in the next qualifying race. When only three riders are grouped together it is called a "total points” race. All three riders will race all the rounds and the main event. The rider with the best finishes in the qualifying rounds plus the Main Event is the winner. Except for total point races, the finishing order in the main event determines the awards and trophies for that race. As your rider crosses the finish line they will be handed a ticket with a number on it. They need to bring this ticket to the trophy window to exchange it for their trophy.
Enjoy your first race!!! |
